Please Note: Homework will not be assigned until 8/12 due 8/19 Homework is assigned on Friday and is due the following Friday. One big difference this year is that students will be completing a majority of their homework using Study Island on the computer and submitting it online. (Don't worry we'll talk all about it when we meet.) Spelling homework is probably the only paper homework kiddos will be handing in.
Homework is an important part of the learning process. It allows for necessary practice skills, as well as teaching responsibility and time management. Homework grades will be reflected in the student behavior and study skills portions of the report card.
Students will not be penalized in content areas for incorrect answers on homework. Homework is monitored and, as stated above, will be reflected on the report card. Students are given a completion grade in my records. However on the report cards kiddos will receive a 1-4. 4 - being that it is always turned in, on time, and followed the assignment directions. 3 - being that it is mostly turned in, on time, and followed the assignment directions. 2 - being that it is inconsistently turned in, on time, and followed the assignment directions. 1 - being that it is rarely turned in, on time, and followed the assignment directions.
Although homework is not given an academic letter grade, it can affect whether a child receives Honor Roll or the Principal's Award. Please note, that per school policy, students who receives a 1 or 2 on their report card in ANY area are not eligible to receive either award.
If your child is struggling with certain assignments and still doesn't understand parts of the homework after general guidance from you, please let me know. I would rather receive a paper that is incomplete or wrong but has a note attached from a parent, than one that has been given full assistance on every problem. This allows for a more accurate assessment of their strengths and weaknesses.
